Philanthropy
Charity Bowl: Charity Bowl is our large annual philantropy event. It is a greek All-Star basketball game in which the fraternities and sororities are teamed up to form North and South all star teams. The money we raise is through selling ads. And it all goes towards benefitting the Christopher Reeves foundation.
The College Charity Bowl Foundation (CCBF) was named in honor of a charity fundraiser called “The Charity Bowl.” In 1989, the inaugural “Charity Bowl” raised funds for Chucky Mullins, an Ole Miss Football player who was paralyzed while making a tackle during the Ole Miss Homecoming game. Inspired by the efforts of the young men of the Sigma Nu chapter, at the University of Mississippi, and the spirit of Chucky Mullins, a group of Sigma Nu alumni formed the College Charity Bowl Foundation for the purpose of expanding the positive efforts of the Sigma Nu chapter to other universities and colleges on a national basis.
Spinal cord injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere and at anytime. With the help of organizations such as the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and the College Charity Bowl Foundation there is hope for those who suffer from the condition of paralysis. The spirit of Chucky Mullins and the determination of Christopher Reeve continue to inspire those who suffer from paralysis and central nervous system disorders as well as those who wish to “Join the Fight to Cure Paralysis.”
The CCBF is organized exclusively to promote charity basketball games and other events to generate funds for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF). In turn, the CRPF funds research intended to develop treatments and cures for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders and provides an extensive resource center for people with spinal injuries.
Philanthropy oversees that any event, which raises money for some form of charity is organized, planned and executed. The committee also oversees that any opportunity for Community Service is taken by the chapter, then manages the hours put into the community service and turn them in for credit.
